Unakite

Unakite is an altered igneous rock made up of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and clear quartz. It is typically found in the deformed rocks of convergent plate boundaries where granite, pegmatite, and aplite have been metamorphosed.

First discovered in the Unakas Mountains of North Carolina, unakite gets its name from the Unaka Range. It can also be found in other parts of the world, including Brazil, China, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, and Zimbabwe.

The native Cherokee people who once inhabited the Unaka Mountains used unakite, or the "green stone," as a sacred stone in shamanistic ceremonies. They believed that it had the power to bring healing energy to both the physical and spiritual body.
